One night, in a deep mid-winter, master mechanic Peter Lake attempts to rob a fortress-like mansion on the upper west side of Manhattan. Though he thinks that the place is empty, he finds the daughter of the house is actually there. Thus begins a love story between a young Irish burglar and a wealthy girl who is dying.
